Work Permits 4 Ireland is a well-established consultancy based in Cork, specialising in assisting organisations with the application process for work permits for non-EU nationals.

Addressing Labour Shortages

Significant and chronic shortages in employment categories persist across the Irish and EU labor markets. Recruiting skilled personnel from outside the EU is often the only solution to overcome these challenges. In such cases, one of the nine types of work permits available in Ireland will be required.

Key Statistics

  • Work permits issued in Ireland (2024): 39,390
    • An increase of 27% compared to 2023
  • Work permits issued to Cork-based organizations: 3,293
    • An increase of 17% compared to 2023

These figures highlight the growing reliance on non-EU nationals to fill critical vacancies. The Irish Government has responded by expanding the list of job categories eligible for work permits.

However, the application process remains complex, demanding, and often challenging for those unfamiliar with it.

Application Refusals

  • Work permit refusals (2023 & 2024): 318 for Cork-based organizations
    • This represents over 5% of all applications from Cork-based organizations

Refusals can result in significant delays and additional costs:

  • Estimated time to prepare an appeal or resubmit an application: At least 12 working hours
  • Delay for approval of an appeal or resubmitted application: Up to 10 weeks from the original submission
